Birthday Retreat in Costa Rica for Friends and Family

A birthday retreat in Costa Rica for the friends who all turn fifty in the same year, an anniversary with your adult children, or the first time all the siblings have been in one place for too long: Casa Del Soul hosts private celebrations for up to seven overnight guests in a private home in Cahuita, on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, about 20 minutes from Puerto Viejo. Private Celebrations start at $6,500. You get the whole house, a pool after dark, and a coast full of things to do.

What a private celebration at Casa Del Soul is

Exclusive use of the house for your dates: three bedrooms, each with a queen bed and a double bed and air conditioning, two bathrooms, a private pool, an open-air yoga deck, a full kitchen, WiFi, and open-air living and dining spaces where the group gathers. A house manager is available for basic needs. Every guest has the use of a red light therapy mask and blanket.

The $6,500 starting price is preliminary and not all-inclusive. Catering, décor, photography, music, transportation, excursions, coordination, taxes and vendor services are priced separately unless your confirmed proposal includes them. A celebration dinner, a photographer or a sound system are things we quote rather than assume. See the house before you enquire.

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries and reunions: who comes

The friend group that wants one trip that is not a cruise. A couple marking twenty-five years with their children and partners. Three sisters and their mother. College friends scattered across time zones who want a few days where the plans are already made.

The house sleeps up to seven overnight. If you hope to have more people join for the celebration dinner, say so early: attendance beyond the overnight group is not promised and is confirmed only after consultation and a review of the property, and a separate refundable security deposit may be required. Couples celebrating alone may prefer our couples retreats.

How the days can run

Arrive, swim and eat together. Spend a morning on the guided hike in Cahuita National Park, where sloths and monkeys live along a flat coastal trail. Keep the celebration day slow: massage on the deck, then dinner with candles around the pool. On another day choose horseback riding on the coast, a cacao and chocolate tour, or a sunset boat experience for the group.

Every excursion is optional and quoted in your proposal, so a group that wants to do nothing but swim and talk can do exactly that. Yoga, meditation and breathwork sessions can be arranged.

How we plan it with you

Choose the Private Celebration option on the celebrations page, then send your dates, overnight numbers, the occasion and any dietary needs. Tell us which optional experiences interest you and request availability. We reply as soon as we can with a confirmed written proposal listing the house and every separately priced item. After you approve it, a 50% deposit reserves your dates.

Until that proposal is approved, nothing is booked and nothing is paid. We work with one organiser over WhatsApp or the contact form, which keeps the surprise a surprise if that is the plan.

Why a hosted house in Cahuita

Rented villas on this coast give you keys and a kitchen. Casa Del Soul is a private home run for retreats and celebrations: the yoga deck, pool and red light therapy are already in place, a house manager is available for basic needs, and the location puts you in Cahuita, a small Afro-Caribbean village beside a national park and a coral reef, rather than on a resort strip.

Puerto Viejo is about 20 minutes away for the night you want restaurants and music. Most guests fly into San José and travel about 4.5 to 5 hours by road, or fly to Limón and continue by car. The price is a starting point; the proposal is what you rely on.

How many days do you need in Cahuita?

Enough to see the national park, the reef and one cultural tour without rushing, plus a slow day for the celebration itself. Our scheduled retreats run five days and four nights, and many celebration groups choose a similar length. Tell us how long you have and we will suggest a shape for the days.
What is there to do in Cahuita for adults?

A guided hike and snorkelling in Cahuita National Park, horseback riding, cacao and chocolate tours, waterfall hikes, ATV tours, ziplining, whitewater rafting, surf sessions, paddleboarding and sunset boat experiences, along with massage, yoga, breathwork and sound healing at the house. Puerto Viejo, about 20 minutes away, has the restaurants and nightlife.
Can more people join us for the celebration dinner?

Possibly. The house sleeps up to seven overnight guests, and attendance beyond that group is not promised. It is confirmed only after a consultation and a review of the property, and a separate refundable security deposit may be required. Do I need a car in Cahuita?

Not necessarily. Ground transport, airport pickup and transport for excursions can be coordinated and are confirmed in your proposal; transportation is not included unless the proposal says so. A rental car only helps if the group wants to roam independently. The drive from San José takes about 4.5 to 5 hours.
